NorthWest Reno

Northwest Reno is all about family living. Resting on the northwest foothills above downtown, you can look forward to an eagle’s eye view of the Truckee Meadows and rolling mountain landscape. The feel is more mellow than downtown, but only, at most, a 10 minute drive away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and midtown Reno.

Northwest Reno is known as one of the original suburbs of Reno with many homes older, yet come with unique and cozy charm. Those who live in the Old University area can look forward to affordable living in an older, charming, quaint neighborhood. Those living in the New McQueen part of town (named after McQueen High School, one of the highest rated public high schools in the area), there’s ample opportunities for shopping and easy access to anything else you need.

Reno’s Northwest is speckled with many neighborhood parks, but the main attraction is Rancho San Rafael, Reno’s 120 acre mecca of fun and enjoyment and the home of the Great Reno Balloon Race. Rancho San Rafael provides a wide range of activities including: barbecue Areas, biking, bird watching, an exercise course, fishing, gardens, hiking, horseshoe pits, horticultural areas, jogging, kitchens, multi-purpose fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, volleyball courts, walking trails, a 3-acre off-leash dog park (complete with a pond and a drinking fountain), and calls itself home to the Wilbur D May Museum and Arboretum.

Further back into the western facing hills, tucked in nicely is Somersett Master Plan Community. Every Somersett resident enjoys the 9-hole Tom Kite designed Canyon Nine Golf Course, 24,000 square foot the 9 million dollar Club at Somersett recreation center, and over 27 miles of paved and natural hiking and biking trails. The Canyon Nine Golf Course and The Club at Town Center are exclusive to residents and included in Somersett residents’ monthly owners association dues. The rolling hills landscapes make this community one of the most desirable in Reno!
